New Building Supply Company Moving Into The Ironbound Looking for Workers

A new building supply company slated to open on Doremus Avenue in Newark's Ironbound is looking to hire local residents.

Kuiken Brothers, one of the state’s leading suppliers of quality residential, plans to open a new distribution center at 500 Doremus Avenue by the end of summer.

"The economic outlook for Newark is strong, and we are committed to supporting continued growth in the City through not only the supply of building materials, but through our investment in people, and support and engagement with other local, Newark-based businesses," said Matthew D. Kuiken, the vice president of operations for Kuiken Brothers.

"We owe our continued success to the employees and communities in which we live and operate," Kuiken said. "As resident members of the Newark business community, we fully subscribe to the shop local, and hire local philosophy.

Kuiken said the company recognized a need based on the tremendous growth and redevelopment taking place throughout the City of Newark, as well as in neighboring communities. With convenient connectivity via road and rail, and waterfront access on Port Newark’s shipping channel, the facility will help Kuiken Brothers better serve its expanding marketplace.

The 10-acre site features covered storage, including a drive-through warehouse with eight loading docks, an automated racking system, and exterior covered racking to protect lumber, windows, doors, and other building materials. Nearly a quarter mile of rail siding to the waterfront accommodates the direct shipment of lumber, plywood, and drywall from lumber mills and manufacturing facilities in North America.

The property is one of the oldest industrial, originally home to one of the nation's first iron smelters. It was later used to process cashew nut shells to make various oil products. Kuiken Brothers removed industrial tanks and pipelines throughout the site.

Founded in 1912 and still family owned, Kuiken Brothers is operated and headquartered in New Jersey.
