Chris Christie writes a second book as he eyes another potential presidential run

Posted Jun 28, 2021

Former Gov. Chris Christie is about to release his second book — and it’s squarely aimed at his fellow Republicans as he publicly considers another run at the presidency.

The book is titled “Republican Rescue: Saving the Party from Truth Deniers, Conspiracy Theorists, and the Dangerous Policies of Joe Biden,” and it will be published Nov. 16, according to an announcement Monday by its publisher, Threshold Editions.

The publisher — a conservative imprint of Simon & Schuster — said the book is “a timely and urgent guide to moving the party forward.”

Christie’s first book, “Let Me Finish,” arrived in 2019, about three years after he dropped his first bid for the Republican nomination for president, a nod that eventually went to fellow Republican and longtime friend Donald Trump. In that book, the ex-New Jersey governor — one of the first major Republicans to endorse Trump — dished on the inner dysfunction of Trump’s presidency and the often-dramatic dealings inside New Jersey politics.

This book comes as Christie has repeatedly said he hasn’t ruled out running for the Republican presidential nom in 2024, even if Trump runs again. Trump continues to have a large, often divisive influence on the national GOP.

Christie has criticized Trump numerous times in recent months, for failing to say Biden won the election and for his role in the Jan. 6 insurgence at the U.S. Capitol, but he also gave Trump’s presidency an “A” grade in May.

Threshold Editions said Christie “feels compelled to weigh in on the past four years, but especially the past few months, and explain how these falsehoods, and the grievance politics they support, cost his party the House, the Senate and the White House in two years, for the first time since Herbert Hoover.”

“Christie delivers a frank insider’s account of that election and the tragic descent of some members of the Republican Party into cowardice and madness, as well as no-nonsense solutions for how to recover the party’s image and integrity, and how to beat back the ultra-liberal policies of Joe Biden’s Democrats,” the publisher added.

This won’t be Christie’s last book. It’s part of a two-book deal with Threshold. A date for the second one has not been released.

Christie, 58, left New Jersey’s governor’s office in January 2018 after serving a two-term limit. He has since worked as a political analyst for ABC News and opened his own consulting firm.
