Urban League To Host Culmination Ceremony For Students In The Newark Kids Code Program

 URBAN LEAGUE OF ESSEX COUNTY MEDIA ALERT: 

ON December 12, 2015 FROM 10AM-12:30PM THE URBAN LEAGUE OF ESSEX COUNTY, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE NEW JERSEY INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, THIRTEENTH AVENUE SCHOOL, AND NORTH STAR ACADEMY WILL HOST A CULMINATION CEREMONY FOR STUDENTS IN THE NEWARK KIDS CODE PROGRAM TO CELEBRATE THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS. 

What: The community is invited to join the Urban League of Essex County, the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Thirteenth Avenue School, and North Star Academy as they recognize the outstanding accomplishments of the students in the Newark Kids Code program. Newark Kids Code is an initiative designed to introduce underserved youth in Newark to computer programming, or “Coding” and other digital and web technologies. The students being recognized attended ten Saturday sessions (9am – 4pm), interacted with Guest Speakers in the technology field, and visited the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (where the Scratch programming language they learned was developed), and Harvard Law School where they received inspirational words of encouragement from members of the Black Law Students Association. 

 

Who: The Urban League of Essex County is a nonprofit, community-based organization that provides a wide-range of social and educational services to underserved and at-risk communities throughout Essex County. 

Why: In addition to celebrating our youth, the Culmination Ceremony is designed to bring awareness to the importance of introducing our children to technology at an early age. 

Who Should Attend: Anyone interested in supporting Newark’s youth and/or contributing Newark Kid Code

When: The Culmination Ceremony will be held on December 12, 2015, from 10am – 12:30pm. 

Where: The event will take place at the New Jersey Institute of Technology Campus Center, Ballroom, 2nd floor; 154 Summit Street (Corner of Summit and Bleeker Streets).
