Ramos Announces North Ward Summer Events

Even as the summer season draws to a close, the city's North Ward will continue to provide family-friendly activities through September.

"The summertime is the best time for neighbors to gather in the community and get to know each other," said North Ward Councilman Anibal Ramos, Jr. "Providing recreational opportunities brings neighbors closer together and gives our children structured activities while school is out of session."

The most recent calendar of events is as follows:

August

Annual Cookout for Riverside Villa Residents
The Water Front Recreation Center, 2 Grafton Ave.
Thursday, August 14, noon–3pm

Garden State Salsa Festival
Entertainment, bands, food vendors
Oraton Street at Grafton Ave.
Sunday, August 24, noon–9pm

North Ward Movies under the Stars Featuring: The Breakfast Club
Branch Brook Park (near Ballantine Gates entrance)
Thursday, August 28, 7 p.m.

North 10th St. 6th Annual Back 2 School Block Party
Between 1st and 2nd Ave.
Saturday, August 30, noon – 7pm
Children ages 5-13 must register for a book bag the day of, first come first serve basis

12th-Annual Block Party Luau, Co-sponsored by Councilman Ramos
Live Entertainment, activities for the children
Wakeman Street between Second Avenue and Nursery Street
Sunday, August 31, noon-9 p.m.

September

The Mt. Prospect Partnership presents Newark's Historic Forest Hill Neighborhood's 2nd Annual Hot Rods & Classic Car Show
Mount Prospect Ave. between Delavan Ave. to Heller Parkway
Co-Sponsored Well Fargo and Investors Bank and will serve as a fundraiser for the Susan G. Komen, Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation
Preforming – Bobby Valli, (Frankie Valli's brother), and the Four Seasons, 1pm-2pm, DJ entertainment, face painters, stilt walker, food truck, Steven Baker NY Giants, Batmobile and Batman & Robin
Sunday, September 7, 11am - 4p.m.
