Patrick Council named acting director of neighborhood services

Former city council candidate Patrick Council has been named acting director of neighborhood services and recreation.

 

Newark — Former city council candidate Patrick Council has been named acting director of neighborhood and recreational services.

Council takes the place of Amos Crudup, who was taped to lead the department by former mayor Luis Quintana. Crudup will remain in the department as assistant director, according to the city.

Council ran on Newark Mayor Ras Baraka's ticket for an at-large seat on the City council. He has served as the the coordinator of athletics at Newark Public Schools and on the Newark Public Schools advisory board.

He is also pastor of St. Johns Baptist Church in the city's west ward.

To become the permanent director of the department, the mayor's office will have to submit his nomination to the city council for approval.
