NEWARK — The state's largest police department is accepting applications through Dec. 2 for its memorial scholarship fund, officials said.

The fund, established in the name of several officers who were killed in the line of duty in recent years, has awarded more than $50,000 in scholarships to elementary, high school and college students, according to Sgt. Ronald Glover, a city police spokesman.

Monies for the fund are collected each year through charity golf, football and softball events as well as contributions from city police officers, Glover said.

Applications are due Dec. 2nd, and candidates can download the application form at, according to Glover. The application form can also be viewed here.

Submissions can also be mailed to the Newark Police Memorial Foundation at 274 Chestnut Street, Suite 180, Newark, NJ 07105, Glover said.

Five scholarships, valued at $2,000 each, will be awarded at the department's annual holiday party on Dec. 6th.
