Irvington man shot and killed in Newark

NEWARK — A 28-year-old Irvington man was shot and killed this evening on the 200-block of Hobson Street in Newark, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

The man, who was not identified, was shot at 4:15 p.m. and died a short time later at University Hospital, said Anthony Ambrose, chief of detectives at the prosecutor's office. Detectives are detaining two men who seen running from the scene by off-duty Newark Police Detective Brian Logan, but no arrests have been made, Ambrose said.

The man's death is being investigated by the prosector's task force in conjunction with the Newark Police Department. More information will be released as it becomes available.

The killing is the 65th in Newark this year and follows a particularly bloody stretch earlier this month in which 10 people were killed in the city in 10 days.
