The Second Annual Newark Art Parade of the Newark Arts Council (NAC) Eighth Annual Open Artists’ Studios and Available Space Tour, presented by Prudential Foundation, kicks off this afternoon.

Festivities begin with a double dutch presentation at 4:30, followed by remarks by Newark Mayor Cory A. Booker and a performance by the Shabazz Marching Band. The parade is the official opening celebration of NAC Open Doors.

Leading the parade will be colorful “animodules” -- 8-foot tall lightweight, mobile sculptures designed by local community groups. The parade also will feature African masks, Newark Public School students and members of the World Federation of Parkour and Free Running team.

Later this evening will be the annual Gallery Crawl, sponsored by Port Authority of NY&NJ. Transportation will be provided by Newark Trolley, which will allow visitors to take the trolley to different stops throughout the city and explore the diverse venues within walking distance of each stop. Gallery Crawl guides will be on hand at participating locations. Trolleys run every 20 minutes with the first stop at Gallery 744, 744 Broad St.
