NEWARK — The Essex County Sheriff’s Office is offering $10,000 for information about three unsolved murders that occurred in the city over the past month.

The crime stoppers program announced the reward today for information that leads to an arrest in the Nov. 6 double shooting on South 9th Street that claimed the lives of Kareem Scantling, 33, and Andre Harris, 30.

Authorities are also seeking information on the Dec. 2 fatal shooting of 25-year-old Elijah Adams of Vauxhall, who was in a car driving northbound at 6th Avenue and First Street when he was shot and killed, officials said. Adams has been identified as the son of a Newark police officer.

“The preliminary investigation indicates this homicide in not related to the other two,” the County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement today.

The shootings are part of a recent siege of homicidal violence in the city that prompted Mayor Ras Baraka to call for a "state of emergency." Baraka held a town hall meeting on violence urging the community to help curb crime.

Anyone with information on the homicides is asked to call 1-877-847-7432.
